Overview of the House of Delegates meeting:
- SNM asked all to participate in the survey from CMS for reimbursement on
unit doses
- The Councils have increased funding for council meeting at mid winter to
$3,000
- The Young Professionals Committee will appoint a resident to be on the SNM
board
- PET Center of Excellence elected new board of directors
- Molecular Imaging Center of Excellence has a 5 year plan funded by the $5
million bench to bedside campaign ( $3.9 millions raised first year)
- Definition of molecular imaging- visualization, characterization, and measurement
of biological processes in living systems
- A public relations agency has been hired for the rebranding for molecular
imaging- we are SNM Advanced Molecular Imaging and Therapy not society of
nuclear medicine,
- 87 press releases this year
- Molecular Imaging website available June 3, 2007
- Nuclear medicine pay for performance by CMS starts August 2007 there must
be quality measures in place- working with the AMA consortium nuclear medicine
participating by developing thyroid imaging appropriateness criteria
- Technologist training must include SPECT/PET CT in all programs by 2010
- Technologist entry level BS degree by 2015
- Advance practice for Nuclear Medicine will be in place by 2008
- The technologist scope of practice updated
- June 3 -9, 2007 Molecular Imaging Week
- Strategic plan for the SNMTS presented at the annual meeting
- ABNM (American Board of Nuclear Medicine) maintenance of certification in
the next 5-10 years there will be re-examination not once in a lifetime exam
and some states are now in the process of requiring re-exams this is a board
process not SNM
- SNM membership 59% technologists and 32% MD's has grown by 10% this year----
total 16,000 members
- Capital Campaign " Bench to Bedside",
- Advocacy: reimbursement and research funding,
- Outreach: md's, patient groups, funding agencies, regulators and general
public
- Education: position SNM as central education repository for molecular
imaging
- Research: assist new investigators in the field of molecular imaging
- Support by corporate pledges with a goal of $5 million; $3.9 raised
with $85,000 from individuals
- A 5 year plan now in place
- SNM will have a Capitol Hill Day at the annual meeting in Washington- prior
to the meeting 2,000 phone calls, faxes or e-mails were sent
