Program Co-Chairs Tracy Brown, MD, PhD and Paul Hanson, CNMT have developed an excellent educational program directed toward nuclear medicine and radiology physicians, trainees, nuclear medicine technologists, educators, administrators, and scientists who actively participate in clinical or research activities in nuclear medicine. Individuals attending the course of lectures will be able to:

  • Discuss applications of PET/CT in oncology, cardiology, and radiation therapy planning.
  • Describe the important aspects of building successful patient care teams and nuclear medicine practices.
  • Recognize the impact of the relationship between nuclear medicine and referring physicians on the delivery of conscientious health care

Please browse the preliminary program below, and then make plans to attend.

Statement of Need
Nuclear medicine is rapidly evolving. This program will focus on how recent changes are affecting the practice of nuclear medicine.

Program Overview
Expert faculty will present the latest developments in nuclear cardiology and oncology as well as provide critical guidance to improve the management of clinical practices.

Continuing Education
CME:This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of SNM and the Southwest Chapter, SNM. SNM is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The SNM designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
VOICE: VOICE credit is pending approval from the SNMTS.
CAMPEP: SNM is applying to the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc. (CAMPEP) to be able to offer Medical Physics Continuing Education Credit (MPCEC) to physicists attending the meeting.
SAM Credit: To claim Self Assessment Module (SAM) credits for a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program, you must first be enrolled in a program of this type through the American Board of Radiology (www.abr.org) or the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (www.abnm.org). SAM sessions also qualify as Category 1 CME and can serve to fill that requirement alone or in addition to the MOC.

Call for Abstracts & BEST ABSTRACT CONTEST
The Program Co-Chairs are soliciting abstracts for both oral and poster presentation. Abstracts may report on basic nuclear medicine science, research, clinical investigation, educational inovations, interesting case reports or educational innovations. The selection will be based on subject originality, study design, and scientific relevance to medical knowledge. The reporting of appropriate data and conclusions in the abstract is critical to the selection process. Participation by residents, fellows, practitioners, and technologists is strongly encouraged. There will be a $250 award for the best abstract submitted by a trainee (technologist, physician, scientist or pharmacist).
The deadline for submitting abstracts is Friday, December 18, 2009! Abstracts received by this date and accepted by reviewers will be published in a Spring issue of the Clinical Nuclear Medicine journal. To submit an abstract, simply email your abstract as an attached file to the Chapter office (cmetzger@swcsnm.org). Abstracts must be 250 words or less.
